From Wheat Field to Hydroseeded Lawn
Hydroseeding in Canal Winchester is usually done on ground that was farmed for nearly two centuries. The town began in 1828 when the Ohio and Erie Canal was cut through Reuben Dove's wheat field. Instead of suing the state, Dove laid out a village, and the first canal boat floated through in 1831. Agriculture and transportation built the town, and much of today's new housing sits on that same farm ground.
Farm soil, new houses
Former crop fields can make good lawns, but construction changes them. Equipment compacts the subsoil and builders often scrape or bury the topsoil. Before hydroseeding a new lot we loosen compacted areas, replace missing topsoil and fine grade for drainage.
Canal-era low ground
Canals were dug along low, level routes, and some of the old canal line and nearby ground still drains slowly. If water stands on a lot after rain, we fix the grade or recommend drainage work before seeding. Our grading crews also handle trenching for drains.
The village core
The historic downtown and older streets have small yards, mature trees and lawns that need repair rather than replacement. Overseeding, topdressing and fixing trench settlement are typical requests there.
Builder sites
As new phases go in, builders need perimeter silt fence, inlet protection and fast cover on rough grade. Hydroseeding a whole phase at once is much quicker than straw and seed by hand.
