Renovating Lawns in an Older Enclave
Hydroseeding in Bexley is almost always renovation. Bexley is a small city of about 2.45 square miles surrounded by Columbus, sitting on the banks of Alum Creek. It was formed in 1908 by merging the Bullitt Park neighborhood and the Pleasant Ridge community, and there is little open land left. Our work here is about bringing older lawns back and repairing yards after construction.
Water lines from a war camp
In 1898 Camp Bushnell housed 8,000 Ohio volunteers in Bullitt Park for the Spanish-American War, and water and sewer lines built for the soldiers set up later home building. A century of building since then means many yards have old fill, buried debris and compacted soil from previous projects. We clear and loosen the surface before seeding.
Big homes, big trees
North Bexley has large, mansion-like homes, and Central Bexley has many houses of 2,000 to 4,500 square feet. Large houses with mature trees mean shade, root competition and heavy leaf fall. We choose fine fescue and shade-tolerant blends and time seeding for early fall.
Alum Creek slopes
Behind the Jeffrey Mansion, stone staircases lead down to trails along Alum Creek. Yards that drop toward the creek need firmer cover than flat lawns. We use erosion control blankets on steep banks and keep silt fence between any digging and the water.
After the remodel
Additions, garages, pools and drainage upgrades leave torn-up yards. We regrade, add topsoil and hydroseed so new and old lawn blend.

Bexley Questions
Can you restore our lawn after a home addition?
Yes. We regrade, add topsoil and hydroseed so it blends with the existing lawn.
What grows under big old trees in Bexley?
Fine fescue blends do best in shade. Early fall seeding gives them the best start.
Our yard drops toward Alum Creek. How do you keep it from washing?
Blankets on the steep part, silt fence during the work and seed on the flat yard above.
We keep finding old brick in the yard. Is that a problem?
Near the surface it is. We remove what we hit and add topsoil before seeding.
